Artist: Martha And The Muffins (M+M), Album: Then Again - A Retrospective, Song: Song In My Head

"There's a song in my head going round and round.  Cus there's something in my heart that I never found."  Martha and the Muffins are a new wave band from Toronto that formed in the late seventies.  The two principle members are Martha Johnson and Mark Gane.  They were Ontario College Of Art Students who thought it would be cool to start a band.  They were so good though, that they attracted the attention of Virgin Records and in 1979, released the huge international single, Echo Beach, from their debut album, Metro Music.  Through band member changes, they added bassist, Jocelyne Lanois (Crash Vegas) who just happened to be the sister of Daniel Lanois which began a productive and collaborative relationship. By 1980, they were touring with Roxy Music to give you a sense of their rapid rise to stardom.  They would switch their name to M+M in the mid-eighties after breaking out as a duo in order to work with different session musicians.  The song, Song In My Head, was from an album entitled, The World Is A Ball, that was produced during this period and was released in 1985.  The band would return to their original name and release a retrospective in 1998.  This track also appears on that album.  To date they have released 9 albums and are still actively writing and creating music.  You can follow them at http://www.marthaandthemuffins.com/.  Both the Retrospective release and the original, The World Is A Ball, are only available on the second hand market today.  At the time of this blog, there were copies of the Retrospective trading on Ebay and Amazon between $10 and $60.  You can hear the song, Song In My Head, on You Tube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ms2F1fsZ3BQ&feature=related).  Thanks for reading and enjoy!
